Why STEM?

Learning to ask.
Learning to work things out.

STEM connects science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Children use ideas from different subjects to investigate questions and create solutions.

STEM is a way to connect knowledge with action. A question becomes an investigation; an idea becomes a model; a test becomes a reason to improve.

WHAT CHILDREN PRACTISE

Skills that reach beyond the activity.

Question & investigate

Children can compare predictions with observations and explain the evidence behind an idea.

Design & improve

A model that does not work yet creates a useful next question: what should we change and test?

Share & collaborate

Small-group tasks give children opportunities to listen, explain choices and work towards a shared goal.

Create with technology

Use technology as a tool for making and exploring, with guidance that connects what happens on screen to the physical world.

A foundation for every kind of learner.

UNESCO highlights STEM’s contribution to critical thinking, problem-solving and creativity. These are useful aims for learning, not promises of a particular career or result.

Quality teaching makes the difference.

Equipment alone is not a learning program. Clear goals, purposeful activities and prepared educators help turn a session into more than an enjoyable build.

EEF’s primary science guidance offers evidence-informed recommendations for teaching, including developing scientific vocabulary and working scientifically.

AN EXAMPLE IN PRACTICE

How could your robot travel further?

An illustrative challenge: predict what will happen, build a model, measure its movement, change one feature and compare the results. Children can then explain their choices to a partner. This connects scientific observation, engineering, mathematics and technology in one activity.

THE MASTERKIDS APPROACH

Experience behind the learning. A system behind the delivery.

Our founder’s work in children’s technology education began in 1994. Today, MasterKids brings together themed content, hands-on materials and mentor preparation, with options for schools and education businesses.

For your school

Bring content, materials and teacher training into one partnership. Your teachers deliver the programs; we help prepare the resources and the team. LEGO Education teacher training and certification are also available.
